1858 an envelope addressed to Dunoon bearing a 1d red-brown issue being tied by the "Carridale" Type VIII, Scots Local handstamp in blue ink. The routing of this cover from Carridale was to Campbeltown, thence by ship to Greenock and then across the Firth of Clyde to Dunoon. The second envelope to Stow was routed by Greenock where the adhesive was tied by the "experimental" duplex of Greenock dated for AU 20 1859. Carridale had not cancelled the adhesive, leaving that to Greenock showing inconsistency in the use of the local handstamp, which was placed on the reverse of the envelope. Bov#519
